Well, OK, there was a Sunday, and I think there was some sleep of some
description. However, then there was a technical issue which happened at
11:30pm and that flowed over into Monday morning... not only did the
power go out at one point but so did everything else.
March 31st was a day of running about trying to figure out why the cable
and internet had both gone out. Of course this threw plans for the
wrestling into huge dissarray, prompting emails to all concerned (thank
the gods for wireless internet through a second company) warning them
that it was probably going to be cancelled - but at 4pm - lo and behold
the 'net and cable were back up (after having called Technical Faults
several times to find out why and what was happening) so, with a few
emails resent (again) to all concerned: Wrestlemania 24 at The Fortress
was back on. 'Twas a good night with people over, pork-crackling,
steaks, beer (yes beer), and a lot of shouting at the screen when a
couple of matches didn't go the way they should have - I mean
seriously... Randy Orton was allowed to keep the belt? FFS! Of course we
all knew that Ric Flair was retiring, and it was an emotional moment. Of
course this will mean little to non-fans. It WAS nice to see
Undertaker's winning streak at Wrestlemania continue to 16-0 and I am
wondering if he'll continue through until 20-0, or will the quarter
century be the last hurrah at Wrestlemania 25?
2 days later (Hey! I needed at least ONE night off) was the pre-'A Night
Of Horror' film-festival talk on how to make a Short Subject Horror Film
at Mu-Meson Archives. Ivy came along (as horror is really her thing) and
we were shown 3 films, with directors and cast attending. Daniel
Giambruno's "The New Life", Shane K's. "H. R. Pufnsuf", and Dalibor
Backovic's "The Ancient Rite of Corey McGillis". Now I had seen films 1
& 3 before and I hadn't seen #2. Sio it was interesting to compare the 3
works - they were all radically different, but #3 'Corey McGillis' stood
out as by far the best, which was reflected by the bulk of the questions
being directed to that director, who's beenm over to LA for meetings and
directorial opportunities. Since then I have been at the festival every
night - seeing some very worthwhile independent horror films 'Flick'
being a standout, along with 'Call Of Cthulu'. I did miss out on the
after-party of the Festival first-night, as I had an early start the
next morning.
Another highlight of the end of last week was Jow flying down for a few
days work at Showgirls. Hadn't seen her in about 3 months and it was
great to have her at home again. The cats didn't ignore her at all (Indy
just taking about 10 minutes to jump all over her as if to say "Where
the fcuk have you been?!" and then it was as if she's not left. That's
been very good, not to mention that she'll be back more regularly now -
priobably once every 4-6 weeks for a week's work. True we haven't had
much time together on this visit as I had the Horror Film festival
booked in and paid for, and she was working each night, but still, it's
been good.
Last weekend was The Red Paintings at The Factory. Now the first time I
saw them was when they were supporting The Dresden Dolls. I thought they
were stunning then (it was the Destroy All Robots Tour). I really like a
band which puts on a show, and the 'Paintings don't dissappoint at all
with their new 'We All Belong In the Sea' Tour. Nice staging, lighting
worked well, sound was good, audience was appreciative, and the show
overall worked a treat in that venue. Althought he reviews for all of
The Red Paintings shows have been good, I think they are sadly
underrated by the public, and I'll be looking for their next show with
much anticipation. After all, to have all the band in undersea/Kabuki
costume, 2 mermaids live onstage being painted by body-artists,
portraits being painted from scratch by other artists, it's an
experience. Not to mention that they are very good melodically as well.
I'll be interested to hear what their impending US Tour is going to be
like and how they're received over there. Ascension was right after the
show, so I headed up there and spent time catching up with people.
Weirdly, Ascension 'officially' finished at 2:30am? Not sure why. Still
we all hung about until about 4, and then (embarressingly catching
myself nodding off) I took myself home to bed.
Sunday was sleeping in a bit, the afternoon Cthulu Film Session and the
'Sick in the Body Sick In The Head' Short film evening session of the
Festival. Dinner, in between the two sessions, then off home at the end.
Some time with Jow and thence sleep and back to work.
Tonight, I'm off to another session at the Horror Film Festival, this
goes on until Friday night. So it's no rest for the wicked.
Oh yes - The Presets went onsale this morning, and so did Panic At The
Disco ;)
