Stuff and Eurovision

Again about a week has chortled by with a few landmark things happening
and a few mundane pedestrian things as well.

Funerals (memorial services), and the circumstances surrounding them,
can make one a little introspective. Actually, let's be blunt here, they
can make you downright unsociable. I figure that's been at the base of
my overall lack of interest in heading out anywhere in this last week. I
have Barbs, Wynter and Donna to thank for bucking up the ol' spirits :)

As a side-note: Last week was the memorial service in Canberra, Noel's
funeral will be held at 2:15pm on (this) Friday the 30th May at the
South Chapel, Botany Cemetery, 12 Military Road, Matraville.

So the last week was full of bittersweet times - and a lot of
frustration, too.

Well, it all started with the 'Memorial Service' announcement, last
weekend (not this one just gone, the one before);
The Friday work meeting where we were told that all the contractors were
being asked to move on (well, those in my area, anyway) as the new CIO
is going in another direction - so I'll be here for only another week or
so);
Then there was a trip to The Oxford Tavern with Frank and the gang
(where I VERY happily caught up with Jow for a few hours), which led up
to a great Hellfire and a full weekend which was quite ecstatic and
which opened a new door;
There was last Monday and the WWE Pay-per-view last Monday night - which
had some matches which were worthwhile, and others which were really BAD
story-telling (remember, it's the storyline coupled with the athleticism
which makes or breaks it).
Tuesday was a half-day at the office, followed by a flight to Canberra
for the Memorial Service, and a flight back (followed by introducing
Wynter to Raiders Of The Lost Ark);
Wednesday was more work, a quick stop-off at S(A)X to make a very
important purchase (and arrange a future surprise), followed by 'Temple
Of Doom' and 'Last Crusade' at The Fortress;
Thursday was the opening night of the new Indiana Jones film which we
went to see with Bec and Aaron in Gold Class;
Friday was work, followed by a quiet one at home;
For that matter, so was Saturday (we were originally going to head off
to see 'The Veil'), but at the end of the day decided on a nice night in
- and pleasant it really was (you should see Barb's new hair);
Sunday, a sleep-in followed by heading off to The Sydney Leather Pride
Week Launch at The Taxi Club. Now I have to say that I always expect
more people to be at the launch, but they don't seem to be - and that
strikes me as weird. Still, it was good to introduce Barbs around and
catch up with Jon, Mikey, Gary, Felic and Greg.

Finally, last night was home-made beef/tomato soup - which was full of
awesome, coupled with Eurovision excellence. There was a thought to
possibly head into Kelly's to cheer along with lots of other people, or
perhaps pop just up the road to watch it at the newly opened Manacle Bar
on Crystal Street, but when you have homemade soup, good company,
geeking laptops and a large-screen TV... it's a tough choice. In the end
the soup and 'comfortable-ness' won out.

The frustration factor is still the incredible lack of mobile phone. I
can still only call out - which does make it marginally more useful than
a doorstop. So, apologies to anyone trying to call in - I'm simply not
answering random white flashes of the screen which are mostly no calls,
or maybe a call which I can't hear, maybe an SMS which is partially
garbled trash, maybe a fax machine (don't ask about that one), maybe
just random turning itself on/off or onto Flight Mode (?). Vodafone are
'looking into it'. Priceless. Therefore the *best* way to get a message
to me is via the intarwebs, or my home answering machine ;)

This week, however, is filled with good things, being a movie premiere
tonight, Phantom Of The Opera tomorrow night, Sydney Leather Pride
education night on Wednesday night, Edward Scissorhands on Thursday
night, Noel's funeral followed by Barbarians Degustation on Friday
night, Liberty In Restraint (followed by Dark Rhapsody) on Saturday
night. So, overall it's more on the up-and-up this week - though (as
noted above) it does seem to be my last week here at Sydney Uni (as far
as we have been told - though things are STILL up in the air).

So, to raise the spirits back up to a good place: I give you my
favourite moment from Eurovision last night.
With a hii hii hoo and a hii hii hey!
We're hoisting the flag to be free
We will steal the show,
Jolly Rogers go,
We are wolves of the sea
