...it was a Dark (and stormy) Knight

A dash into the city to sign my contract for this job - which all of this week has been fixing stuff to do with LJ - and groups and getting Events In Sydney up-to-date and re-running (still doing bits far in advance now - so that stuff can't fall off so easily (taking time off does NOT mean you have lots of time to yourself to do stuff which takes you about 20 mins a day when at work).

The contract was wrong (including GST, sh'yeah right!) - so it had to be re-written. All of the forms signed where asked - then a wander up to Bar Ace to confirm their last day/evening.

Bar Ace is officially closing their George Street premises on July 31. So, I think it would be an awesome thing to get everyone to go down there on that Thursday night to have a farewell drink. Anne (at the little Chinese eatery down there) is not going with them, so it's farewell to her chicken/porkchop/pho specials - so we should try to get as many people as possible there that night. The management is up for it too. I'll Facebook it tonight (I ahould have time before Hellfire) :)

So, then came the tough call of getting home - an hour and 10 minutes later I got transport home... why the hell were half-empty busses not stopping at bus-stops full of people?? I was not impressed. Still... off to home to tweak last minute fixes on my old 'uniform' ;) Then a VERY slink-worthy <lj user="arby_doll"> arrives (the post surgery weight-loss and muscle-toning works very well on her I must say :)) and we head off into the city to meet up with the rest of the villain brigade.

Yes - there were 2 fabulous Jokers, one awesome Harley Quinn, A Poison Ivy to die for, a Riddler, a Penguin, a Batgirl, a Zatanna (and I think that was all). As <lj user="hexyhex"> said - it figures that brother and sister would be on the opposite sides of the law... (she was one of the fabulous Jokers and me? I was Nightwing... Nightwing!... The hero Robin turns into after he leaves Batman! Sheesh!) There were pics taken and there will be pics posted I swear. As Alicia said, we should have struck a deal with Greater Union! An hour spent outside posing for photos with the passers by (just HOW many "Kawaii!!" pics can one take?!?!?!) and then into Gold Class. Hey <lj user="pornofairy">! You didn't recognise me until I accosted you! and then you totally lost it!

Up to the cinema, reclining into ther seats having ordered the food/champagne (which was brilliantly paid for by <lj user="arby_doll"> - thank you!!) ...and then the film...

<lj-cut text="I. Have. No. Words.">I. Have. No. Words.

A sequel is a very tough thing to make. There have been many failures where the follow-up piece falls into the shadow of the well-crafted original. Where a studio trips over itself to capitalise on an initial success to make a quick buck. Not here. This can be compared to Star Trek II & Superman II where the sequels far outstripped the original, and in this case the original was a tall order to live up to. This is not a light film, there is an decrease of humour, which mirrors the constant grind Bruce Wayne must feel in living up to the 'symbol' which he has created. Christian Bale is a more weary Bruce Wayne, and a harsher Batman, discovering that indeed 'to catch the beast, one may have to become like the beast'. His performance was rock solid. Alfred is a little more world-weary, but this fits well. Gary Oldman should have been James Gordon years ago - he IS James Gordon, and his dedication to a role is what makes Gordon work. I have no words which can do justice to Heath Ledger's performance. Yes, I was sceptical, due to the hype. I was sceptical up until about halfway in when Ledger got to have more than 1-2 lines at once, even though his appearance and presence onscreen was rivetting. When he was given the time to interact with the other characters, his character blossomed and it was magnetic. This Joker is real and he IS a psychopath. Ledger is mesmerising as this broken individual, commanding the screen with his downplayed performance. This is surely his tour de force, and I agree that he should definitely receive a posthumous Oscar nomination for the role. I need to see the film again (in IMAX! OK Hexy? Alicia? Bec? Barbs?) to have the role's subtleties totally sink in, but yes - he deserves a nomination 100%. As for the film... THIS was a crime film. It was a gritty realistic noir-driven crime film. The fact that there was a black-clad costumed vigilante running about stopping crime was actually incidental - and did NOT stick out at all - it was seamless. This was the world (our current world) where superheroes and villains DO exist, and not in a gaudy fashion. I think that was the thing which left me beathless, the crafting of the piece to make it real. My one criticism was it's overall length - which in retrospect was sitting through a mini-series. Yes, I noticed how long it was running - BUT even though it was a little over-long - I seriously didn't care. </lj-cut>

No spoilers.

Just see it.

A champagne toast between <lj user="princessebee">, <lj user="hexyhex"> and myself to the memory of Heath, and then off home at half-midnite... for unconciousness/sleep

...and I overslept this morning after dreaming that I had become the Premier of Victoria (no, I AM serious...do NOT ask... it hdad something to do with a strike, me telling Brack how bad a job he had done, Kevin Rudd telling me  had been given the job, and then became even more surreal). I still got into the office at 8:30 (only half an hour after I wanted to get here).

So, who will I be seeing at PELLFIRE tonight?
