End of another week...

So, it's Friday and the week has come to an end.

Things they are a changing... Sometimes that's for the best - sometimes it's
a little sad, but change is always that way really. The usual and the
comfortable things keep growing, moving on, it's a GOOD thing, but still...
Anyway... The rent goes up at The Fortress in about 2 weeks' time, and that
means (due to increasing expenses) we unfortunately lose a long-time
housemate - which is a little sad... because we likes her a lot. Still, as I
said, things move and grow. It looks as though we already have a replacement
in line, so that's a good thing too. Still, precious little of the things
which need to be done have been completed at this stage, so I am trying to
get the increase put off until there's another pre-rent-raising inspection.

This weekend I don't get days off... And in saying that I'm not complaining.
I'm not working. Rather, from 9-5 on Saturday and Sunday I will be at a
course (and I will be there next Saturday as well). So, I have to be at
Crow's Nest at 9am tomorrow and Sunday morning. It'll be a short DM for me
tomorrow night and a Short Hellfire next Friday as well. However, to
continue to grow in oneself, one has to make the choices - and making them I
am :) Still, I will be hoping to run into people tomorrow night for a brief
time.

This job is... Er... Interesting. For the past week I have tried valiantly
to look busy, but I have been basically updating Events sites inbetween the
few times I can do things (no, <lj user="illdrinn"> I don't have access to
the tools, the groups for the tools, or most other things I need to perform
the job which I am doing - in lieu of the job I was hitred to do - either...
Being a contractor and all, contractors have little permission here - also
no training in the topology - though I have most of that down pat now). What
to do? Ask? Sure, but I'm not hired for that area of support and so I don't
get to do it - though I am to assist where I can (only with the tools I am
allowed to have). Nah, don't worry, the job-agency kbnows that I'm not doing
what I was hired to do, and they're saying I'm here until October 20-ish.
Already looking, though, I'm not silly.

Last night I went to see Mummy 3. Hmmm what to say... Cass? I want to hear
what you think, but as for me...<lj-cut text="Maybe Spoilers">Brendan Fraser
was Rick to a 'T', that was great! He made me smile. He put his all into a
role which was written for him, and at least gave him some range. Overall,
it was shiny and pretty, and that was nice, though you could tell that the
director came from car-based action-films. Jet Li was used and under-used. I
missed Arnold Vosloo, he brought realism and pathos to the 'monster', and I
was really hoping that he'd be a surprise secret weapon against Jet Li...
But such was not to be. Rachel Weisz was missing and I missed her, terribly.
Conversely, she was NOT Evie - a nod to that was even given in her dialogue.
Also, because of that, and the actress just NOT having the same
vunerabilities (I could NOT envisage her saying "I...am a Librarian!" with
ANY inebriated, vunerable, conviction at all. As such, I couldn't invest
myself in the relationship between Rick and Evie. Alex, the son, was really
damned annoying (he's Australian??) and his character was a complete change
from the second film (ignoring any 'logical' changes from gowing up). In the
Mummy Returns, he was a proper little English schoolboy, brought up in
England...and so had a British accent and where the hell did it go?
Australian would have even been preferable. Overall it was shiny and nice,
but it wasn't a patch on Indy 4, and that's saying something.</lj-cut>

OK - well that's it really. Tonight will be a quiet one at home, methinks,
followed by a course and study tomorrow and Sunday.

So I guess I will see some people (briefly) tomorrow night at DM.
