Well, the weekend was full of it's ups and downs. Then again life can be like that too :)
Friday evening was a little roller-coaster - and I weary of that ride ;) I'm nutting out some issues at the moment... nothing really bad... just going to address some things in my own way (which others may or may not agree with, but they will be addressed my way). :) Still, we went off to see Fire Water at Campbell's Cove. It was touted as one of the jewels in the corwn of the Sydney Vivid Festival. Even though pictures were taken and they look great (I'll post some on Facebook later) the overall production as lacklustre. 20-25 mins setup, with the rest of the show culminating in the raising of the Three Bees (a convict ship which burnt to the waterline in Campbell's Cove in the 1800's) and the firing of the ship, allegedly by a cabin-boy. A great idea, but somewhat long-winded in execution (and it ran long). I know Nikki wasn't pleased with it, and I thought it very slow to start with the climax (the ship-burning) being all of 5 minutes at the end. A bit of an anti-climax.
Then, Barbs and I went off to The Sydney Film Festival to see Soderberg's "The Girlfriend Experience". This, gain was a bit of a hit/miss. I can see where Soderberg was trying for that fly-on-the-wall documentary style. Casting a well known porn actress in the lead was an interesting way of approaching this day-in-the-life-of-a-high-priced-callgirl short, however, what it delivered was a series of loosely connected vignettes of her life over half a week, told in both documentary narrative and a series of similar styled flashbacks which left the viewer a little disjointed. At no time are we attached to the heroine of the piece, and we are left feeling somewhat unsatisfied as to the reason for making the piece int he first place. I must admit I expected better.
Later on...chats about a few things and then bed.
Saturday? Originally, I was supposed to be off filming on Saturday morning in Narrabeen. Of course this was the theory. The original call-sheet for the final week of filming had me down for being clear but an email exchange with the Production office had me down for early Saturday (also having filmed last weekend at sparrow's-fart in the morning). So, I waited... and I waited for the final confirmation call-sheet to come out (this is a daily event at about 7pm every evening so we all know when/where we are filming, any changes, extra times, new script updates, etc... a professional thing to do). 10:30pm rolls around and no email, and no answer from the Production Office. So, having looked back at the original weekly call-sheet I assumed that I would probably not be needed (having not gotten an update). 11:40pm and the call comes through saying that I needed to be in Mosman at 10am in the morning, and could I bring a grey suit-jacket - obviously a last minute wardrobe change. I get my stuff ready and hit the sack. 8am in the morning, out of the shower, I get a call confirming the change of location and time. 4 minutes later I get a call from another person in the Production Office telling me that the filming had been canned for the day. I called the office and asked them to confirm that. They seemed surprised. They called back 15 mins later (I am almost in the city at this stage) telling me that indeed it had been cancelled due to a few of the principal cast being unavailable (due to a lengthy 'shoot' the night before) [it was a beach scene and the instruction was to have some friends along if you wanted to make a party of it]. Suffice to say that I was unimpressed... so it was turning about and heading back home-time. Wasn't. Happy. Jan.
ANYWAY... I headed back home and hit the sack, again, because I needed the rest/sleep until the afternoon. I think I was a little abrupt with people that morning - apologies and mea culpa... I said I needed the rest.
Saturday night was a Birthday dinner for Nikki at Sushi Bar Rashai, which is always a treat - the food is good and the company was very good :) So, after stuffing ourselves to repletion and waddling back home (with the sound of someone walking behind us with a comedy sousaphone playing oom-pa-pa music). It was time for a quick turnaround and change and heading out to Die Maschine. With CTRL-ALT and TOKYO DISCO on as well as a fire-twirling party out west, a large number of people were not there, making attendqance down somewhat markedly than normal. That being said there were enough people there to be a fun night - though Barbs and I did leave at about 3am due to me still being somewhat tired. I think I might be fighting off a change-of-season cold, and I have NOT been anywhere near Swine Flu. So, got back home about 4am, off to bed and sleep until 10, then some more applications and so forth for the rest of the day, which was spent quite pleasantly in the company of the Barbs and "Merlin" (all episodes up to date now, including last night's - which has pleasantly surprised me - as I expected 'Camelot 90210', and have instead gotten something closer to 'Smallville' in feel.
This week I have a voice-over (tonight) and an audition on Friday, followed by 'Hellfire' and (FINALLY) a trip to 'No Vitals' which I am very much looking forward to.
Apart from that it's work...
