Well, it's been a fun week/end so far I must admit - and I mean it in both senses of the word 'fun'. (Warning: This may be a part vent - so if you like avoiding venty-drama-llamas, please click the remote now. :))
OK - So the weekend started well on Friday afternoon, with advice that the work that I was kept on for has not materialised and so they are letting a slew of ex-APEC people go, even though they guaranteed us work until Jan 28th. Splendid. Not particularly impressed to be honest - so I will be calling in markers via Billmonk in about 2 weeks methinks, and I will be following up personally ;) Oh, there're no short-term worries - I will survive (thank you Gloria Gaynor) but I must admit that I had worked everything out strategically and financially until the 3rd week of January. So I will be looking for something to walk into right now.
Hint: If there's any short-term things available starting from November 19th, please let me know ASAP.
OK - apart from that, things seem to be interesting in other ways. A number of issues over the weekend have led me to re-iterate this statement:
"No matter who you are: If you force a choice upon me - the side you are promoting will lose out."
To clarify: If you demand that I/or try to force me to make a choice between your side of an argument/issue/point/etc... and another, I will automatically take the other side - the one NOT 'demanding' the choice - regardless of the issue/choice. End of story - no further correspondence will be entered into - My life, my decision - deal with it - do not fold, spindle or mutilate.
End. Of. Fucking. Subject.
I have also been thinking on some other serious matters which I will not go into here. Suffice to say that sometimes things do seem to have a heirarchy, even though they don't start out that way.
Now for the good bits :) - and of those there were many :)Friday evening, I dashed out of work - went to see the Physio (for this stupid muscle, which by-the-by seems to be on the mend, I know it must because I am wanting to do normal things with it and have been told not to - still - grrr) and then dashed home to change for WWE Survivour Series Tour at Acer Arena :) An arrival by str8bi at the requisite time meant we had all the time in the world to get there - and we did... until the door shut on me with my keys inside the house. Wind. It was wind I tells ya! Anway - I have the best housemate piratenoir to thank for jetting back, opening the house, so we could get keys and head on off to Acer Arena to see the men & women throw themselves around the ring for our amusement and entertainment. It was a great show and I know mslucyblue will be upset because Umaga was there in person :) Randy Orton (I am sure) picked up the two Pole-dancers in the front row (I am sure I recognised them from Sexpo... or Showgirls...); Mr Kennedy is a real worker and is a good live performer. So, too, is Mickie James (I was pleasantly surprised by her live presence). I must admit that I expected better from Beth Phoenix, but I was VERY impressed to see Hacksaw Jim Dugganthere. Brian Kendrick was a stand out - VERY good live - he has a lot of energy and deserves a push on the show. Triple H stole the show (although seeing Jeff Hardy WAS a real highlight) - and I got William Regal to stop in his tracks by yelling out (in a quiet spot) that I wanted him to "Show us The Regal Paunch!" on the end of "Regal's a Wanker!..." I added: "First he has to find it!" ...and "Hey Regal! I got one word for ya! Cricket!" - MUCH hilarity! str8bi had a great night, too - I was looking for Greg and andiron, but didn't see them. I did see Anthony Mundine there (I'm sure). Anyway - I popped pics and vids up on my Facebook - I LIKE the events interface there - you can add so much to remind you of things :) The rest of Friday night was going to be well-deserved sleep - but it eluded me - stupid muscle - and so I was awake until about 3am... pft! I should have gone out.
Saturday was a day of waking late, sending birthday wishes off to Mandi - doing little else except some tidying up. Then getting ready for the Toydeath gig. I decided to drag piratenoir out to see them as well - as she needs to get out and do some 'stuff' every now and again. For once, though, I was happier with the support bands, than I was with Toydeath (which is not to say that Toydeath were bad... far from it, just that this time the supports were better). They were fun as always (see the Facebook pics/vids) but the supports were great. I had never seen Lunar Module - but I like their retro-synth-pop sound a lot. Dandelion Wine were good as always and Telefonica (another new one for me) were really good, the lead singer's voice was great, we'll have MUCH more of her, please :). CDs bought - playlist added to :) Was good to chat with badpauly, _blubloo_ and theivd as well. From there it was a detour via home to Die Maschine to enjoy more of the music and see people (frankdog, someone has stolen your van and replaced it with a smaller dark 4-wheeled thing, please fix this immediately ;)). I was very pleasantly surprised to see Gill there - I thought she was spending the weekend in. So, spent good time there indeed. (Hey, Gill! I agree about the Drama/Gossip thing - let's just leave that one to their own devices :)). I must admit, though, that the amount of people saying that my Mo (for Movember) needed to be trimmed into a toothbrush version, brush my hair down emo-style and wear a brown-shirt so I can impersonate Hitler, were a worry. MANY people said that... strange. I thought it was more the porn-star look. Anyway, had a lot of fun there and at close headed off home. Got home and geeked for about an hour, then slept to be able to have a full day.
Sunday - woke up at 1pm, which was good. Got ready and headed into The Newtown Festival where I ran into ctrlshft, Mark and chatondesse (somewhat resplendent with her pink parasol), although they left soon after - may have been the Mo, I'm not sure. So I wandered about, ate, bought a couple of things, saw a Herbie, ran into matt_hell, kanika and dr_sockman, and skanka & trashtastika, had Glebe newspaper photos taken of us (probably turn up as an ad for next year's Festival ;). Left matt_hell (with a porn-star look of his own happening) to drink with Socky, whilst kanika and I explored the stalls. Ran into Shane and then arradius and the_bastardo (who were my lifts to Blade Runner). That, of course leads to Blade Runner: The Director's Cut. A quick trip via home to Cremorne in time to get excellent seats and catch up with dra_ken and henchwench before having the pleasant surprise of seeing goldfishgeorge and sebthecat at the screening as well. Blade Runner was screened in the new 4K Digital projection process, which was totally digital (no celluloid of the print in the cinema) - and the process (which is slated to replace film screenings in the long term) was marvellous. Of course there is just so much you can do with transferring from an original negative from 25 years ago, but in parts, The Final Cut was VERY shiny and awe-inspiring, and the new portions of the film were blended seamlessly. It's lost none of it's appeal in 25 years - and that's the mark of a good film (regardless of the genre). Afterwards, repairing to The Oaks for post movie eating and beverages, led to a chance meeting with a Director, which could be a bonus for many people ;) Then, off home via a kind lift from Mr Steele. I quick dive online, and some chats with old friends, then to bed.
This morning - work - which consists of me doing bit and pieces, and applying for new jobs/contract. Still, some things are looking VERY good - mslucyblue gets back/in tomorrow evening :) tonight, I am off to a Press Premiere of Gabriel with ctrlshft ... hmmmm ;) ... and Hellfire is this week and I get to return there with mslucyblue for the first time in 6+ months :D (I must admit I am more than bouncily happy about this :D).
