Ooooh somehow I feel cheated again...

Not only is my offsider away again today (making the Lidcombe rollout today
another non-event) but that means that tomorrow morning (early) I am off to
The Central Coast for a rollout there - providing the offsider is here. <
sigh >

Yes the saga of the dead laptop is quite straightforward. Some form of red
fruit juice (judging from the amount of corrosion - which I looked at last
night myself - it's about a week old, well not that *I* know how fruit-juice
looks after a week - but the amount of corrosion on the motherboard suggests
over a few days nonetheless). The HDD is fine - but the Motherboard is
definitely cactus. Of course this means a replacement needs to be purchased
< sigh >.

Back to the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics... not only were the firework
footprints digitally inserted into the ceremony, but the voice of the little
girl-in-red was not actually her voice. The voice used was that of the girl
who had up until that evening, rehearsed the opening ceremony until (at the
last minute) a senior member of the Chinese Politburo deemed her not 'pretty
enough' to be in the ceremony. <i>"The reason was for the national interest.
The child on camera should be flawless in image, internal feelings, and
expression. Lin Miaoke</i> [the girl who appeared to sing] <i>is excellent
in those aspects, but in the aspect of voice, Yang Peiyi</i> [the
pre-recorded voice] <i>is flawless, in each member of our team's view."</i>

So there you have it. At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter too
much, as the production all came together (apart from the odd BSD projected
onto the Bird's Nest wall) ...but somehow, for some reason, I feel a little
duped.
