MOvember draws to a close...

So. Damned. Itchy.

So, the month of 'Movember' draws to a close - and so this hairy thing
on my upper lip will be shaved off on the weekend. So that leaves you 2
days to sponsor me :) - During Movember (the month formerly known as
November) I've been growing a Mo. That's right I've brought the Mo back
because I'm serious about helping to change men's health and the fight
against male depression and prostate cancer. Why? Well apart from it's
obvious... at the very least, Last year in Australia 18,700 men were
diagnosed with prostate cancer and more than 2,900 died of prostate
cancer - equivalent to the number of women who die from breast cancer
annually. So, this is your LAST chance to help me help them by
sponsoring this Mo growth. It's gone Midnight TONIGHT... so it's been
here a month and it's pretty darn good :) To sponsor my Mo please go to
<b><a href="http://www.movember.com/au/donate">The Movember Donation
Site</a></b>, enter my registration number which is <b>81466</b> and
your credit card details. Or you can sponsor me by cheque made payable
to the "Movember Foundation" clearly marking the donation as being for
my Registration Number: 81466. Please mail cheques to: PO Box 292,
Prahran VIC 3181. All donations over $2 are tax deductible.

Conversely, I CAN just leave it on and you can sponsor me to get rid of
the thing ;) - I know a couple of people who are doing just that.

In other news... this week has been busy with an inordinate amount of
stuff happening both at work and out of work. Strangely enough I am not
stupidly tired, although this morning getting up was an adventure. Life
is settling into a quite pleasant routine :) Work, then going out to
places and things which is an actual pleasure to do. I have
partners-in-crime who enjoy going to things with me and certain special
ones of those as well, whose company brightens my day/evening
immeasurably.

This last week has been quite full, what with 3 moves planned here (on
<i>my</i> plate, anyway), and helping out with 2 others. Then there was
the stuff out of work. Tuesday I had the pleasure of having dinner and
seeing Star Trek: The Menagerie (on the big screen in 4K HD) with <lj
user="sophronia">. It was honestly a little awe-inpiring to see the
re-worked effects in context and having a 1960's SF TV series, suddenly
looking a lot more up-to-date. Not that I have an issue with the
original effects, I am simply not a purist-nazi. I think what they have
done (the cleaning up and digitising of the original filmstock, along
with the added digital effects) really enhances the old original series,
but I will keep my copies of the originals regardless. Not to mention
that it was good to catch up with Donna, hadn't seen her in too long
(besides, she's a Trek-Fangirl ;))

Wednesday night was Goth-City and regardless of the sledging it has
received (only the Gods know why), the numbers are still creeping up.
With fingers crossed, the bands bookings will be actually fixed and so
there should be an overall improvement to the actual bands there.
However, <lj user="darkelvis2003"> will know a lot more about that than
I. It's always good to catch up with worthwhile people on a Wednesday,
not enough time to catch up with the life-goss from Gill, but I think
I'll set some time aside for that this Saturday at Ascension. Still,
Wednesday does tend to be an earlier one for me - after all, work and
all that comes first.

Last night I was VERY pleased to spend time with <lj user="ctrlshft">
and seeing Beowulf on the 3D screen. If I had a couple of complaints
they would be the staff at GU last night were simply uncaring. Badly
managed queues, especially for those who can 'Jump The Queue', were left
standing and ignored whilst others just jumped the Japanese Film
festival Queue and got in first... not to mention rude. Phone complaint
was made, and I really hope something is done about it. Renovations may
be stated as a factor, but if I'm a customer whose given them money, I
expect to be treated as such, not 'just a punter'. Anyway, that was just
a very annoying glitch in what was a VERY pleasant evening. Beowulf's
animation is done brilliantly, though still not quite in the league of
Final Fantasy (and I'm glad I didn't do the IMAX version as I think
motion sickness may happen to some people - you'll see what I mean when
you see the film). I do agree with <lj user="ctrlshft"> that it's
amusing that they have water pretty much flawless, but they still can't
get horses to run properly ;) The retelling of the saga was handled
quite well, but purists will disagree. I think Avary and Gaiman handled
the script well, with a minimal dumbing-down factor. Overall I was quite
pleased with it, and very much with the 3D process.

Tonight, <lj comm="barbarianplates"> are having their end-of-year dinner
in Surry Hills :) A degustation no less :) There were 9 booked, but this
has whittled away (annoyingly in some cases) to about 6. (No-one blames
those who are sick). Still, the remaining company will be good (thanks
for stepping into one of the vacated spots, Im) and the food comes
highly recommended through <lj user="missdissent"> - and we both have
pretty similar taste in foods.

The weekend looks to be full, too. Saturday is The Canadian Night Of
Horror (stop laughing, Anne) at The Chauvel, with <lj user="ctrlshft">
and <lj user=" poisonivy669">, followed by Ascension with Im and Gill.
Sunday is La Femme with <lj user="ctrlshft"> and Tania. The spa arrives
in about a week, Jow gets here in about a week-ish :) Not to mention
that next year I am also going to H.I.M and to the V-Festival with some
very worthwhile people :) Life ain't so damned bad really...except for
this Mo. <b><a href="http://www.movember.com/au/donate">Please sponsor
it?</a></b> (Mo # 81466) so I can get rid of it tonight. :).
