viewing of Channel 9's screening of 'The DaVinci Code' (which seemed
somewhat shorter and more simplistic then I remember it when I saw it at the
cinemas).
It was a night of interesting revelations... There was news last night...
Some (as I said) interesting (and makes me very happy for others) - and
there was some which was just plain annoying and makes me want to slap
people with a large mallet.
Regardless of my fantasies, some other things are afoot... Some
unfortunately costing $$. Remember that IBM laptop I mentioned had had
something spilled through the keyboard by a person/persons unknown? Well, I
finally got the quote for repair (spillage not covered by warranty). Yes -
thanks to some charming individual it will cost $1745 to repair. Let's put
this in context... They don't make the 3000 series anymore. The closest
model (the SL500) costs only $1600... NEW (obviously not counting the
extended warranty). Wonderful. Thank you to the person/s responsible
(especially for not saying anything at the time, which means that the damage
may have been minimised or eliminated completely at the time). (It kind of
reminds me of a time <i>many</i> years ago, when I went on a camping trip
(yes Steel, I went on a camping trip ;)) and when I came back, my bedroom
door had been kicked in... The people in the house at the time all denied
any knowledge of it... a bit tough when they were the only ones in the house
at the time.)
I realised the other day that it's almost been a year since I finished at
APEC... And THAT is disturbing. It seems like this year has really flown
by... And the jobs I have had haven't been anywhere as good, or satisfying
as APEC was (the job, I said. Public perception is another kettle of chips).
Apart from all that, tonight I go and do my RSA refresher course... Which is
something that I think is kind of important as there have been significant
changes to the laws (which came into force on June 1st this year).
It's also sad to see the (accdording to <lj user="zoog">) the RIP of <b><a
href="http://www.australiangothic.com">Australiangothic.com</a></b>. It was
an ambitious project and one which seriously filled a much-needed space.
However, to thrive and survive, it needed either a dedicated team (whose
sole job was to administer and add to the site) and the continuous input of
promoters and bands to continue to make it relevant, timely and and
worthwhile. For a while there it was indeed relevant, timely, more than
worthwhile, and a serious credit to Karl and the gang for putting it out
there and keeping it up-to-date (no mean feat I can tell you). However, as
Karl said... [paraphrased]"...if you don't get the support (if people don't
submit their clubs/gigs) you can't run it..."[/paraphrased]. At the end of
the day, that's a fair (if unfortunate) reason to seeing it succumb to the
law of diminishing returns.
<b><a
href="http://books.google.com/books?id=8UsqHohwwVYC&printsec=frontcover">Goo
gle Chrome</a></b> looks VERY interesting.
ANYWAY... Back to the grind, with more PCs being checked and imaged - oh how
this taxes my brain (please note the sarcasm being bucketed onto THAT
statement).
